A WOz Framework for Exploring Miscommunication in HRI
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim of this paper is to investigate management of miscommunication in spontaneous interaction between a human and a speech-enabled robot. The paper describes initial results of an exploratory WOz study, in which pairs of naive participants interacted and collaborated in a navigation task. The study is motivated by how humans achieve mutual understanding as well as previous research conducted in the area of spoken dialogue systems. The dialogue and error handling capacity of the wizard is incrementally impaired towards the capabilities of a system in three experimental conditions. Preliminary analysis of the data reveals the necessity to endow the robot with richer error management resources and point to the efficacy of less explicit error handling strategies. Analysis of the data and further experimentation are currently performed and expected soon to shed light to some of the intricacies and unique characteristics of HRI.

Exploring Miscommunication and Collaborative Behaviour in Human-Robot Interaction
This paper presents the first step in designing a speech-enabled robot that is capable of natural management of miscommunication. It describes the methods and results of two WOz studies, in which dyads of naïve participants interacted in a collaborative task. The first WOz study explored human miscommunication management. The second study investigated how shared visual space and monitoring shap...
متن کاملOpenWoZ: A Runtime-Configurable Wizard-of-Oz Framework for Human-Robot Interaction
Wizard-of-Oz (WoZ) is a common technique enabling HRI researchers to explore aspects of interaction not yet backed by autonomous systems. A standardized, open, and flexible WoZ framework could therefore serve the community and accelerate research both for the design of robotic systems and for their evaluation. This paper presents the definition of OpenWoZ, a Wizard-of-Oz framework for HRI, desi...
متن کاملWizard of Oz Studies in HRI: A Systematic Review and New Reporting Guidelines
Many researchers use Wizard of Oz (WoZ) as an experimental technique, but there are methodological concerns over its use, and no comprehensive criteria on how to best employ it. We systematically review 54 WoZ experiments published in the primary HRI publication venues from 2001 2011. Using criteria proposed by Fraser and Gilbert (1991), Green et al. (2004), Steinfeld et al. (2009), and Kelley ...
متن کاملWizard-of-Oz Interfaces as a Step Towards Autonomous HRI
Within the HRI community, Wizard-of-Oz (WoZ) methods have been extensively used to explore robot interactions. However, their wide usage has also been criticized as not giving good representation of how real, autonomous robots can interact. In this paper, I argue that thoughtfully designed Wizard-of-Oz control interfaces can enable robot designers to explore the interaction design space fur hum...
متن کاملA WOZ Environment for Studying Mutual Adaptive Behaviors in Gesture-based Human-Robot Interaction
Mutual adaptation is considered to be one of the key issues in realizing a human robot interaction (HRI) system. In order to develop a mutually adaptive interactive robot system, the authors adopt a bootstrapping approach comprising three stages: a human-human WOZ (Wizard of OZ) experiment, a humanrobot WOZ experiment, and a human-adaptive robot experiment. This paper will focus on the second s...
